TYLER OCASIO HOLMES
“I create cinematic work rooted in emotion, identity, and impact. From directing award-winning films to capturing branded content, my lens is intentional and culturally relevant.”
Tyler Ocasio Holmes is a Black American and Puerto Rican filmmaker and photographer from Virginia Beach, VA. He is a graduate of Columbia University in the City of New York and the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, where he earned his MFA in Film and Television Production.
Before filmmaking, Tyler moved through multiple worlds including Wall Street, politics, grassroots organizing, education, and working closely with justice-impacted youth. These experiences shaped his perspective and continue to inform the emotional and social depth of his work.
His films explore identity, masculinity, power, and transformation, often blending grounded realism with afro-surrealism, comedy, and psychological tension. His latest work as a film director, the anthology feature film Three Colors: Pan-African, has screened at various festivals, including winning the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the 2026 Slamdance Film Festival and winning the Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature at the 2026 American Black Film Festival.
Tyler has directed, edited, and story produced narrative films, music videos, and branded content. His past client work includes Hartbeat Productions, Motown Gospel, Ebony Magazine, and Johns Hopkins University. Whether working with actors, artists, or real people, he is focused on crafting stories that feel lived-in, culturally specific, and emotionally honest.
